Let’s face it. No one wants to work for someone for years and years before they’re able to make a comfortable salary. I had put my time in and had done well, but I always wanted more. More for my family and more for me. I wanted to be my own boss, be in charge of my own destiny. Leave a legacy for my kids.
When the pandemic started, I was one of millions who lost their job. And it was in one of those industries hardest hit by the pandemic and won’t be coming back any time soon. However, I wasn’t about to let that prevent me from moving forward. I still wanted to work and make good money, but I also knew that changing careers at my age was risky. Real estate had always intrigued me. Supply and demand of homes means brokers will always have a market in which to work. And now that more and more people are working from home, a housing shortage has occurred making this the hottest real estate market in years.
I decided that Real Estate might just be the ticket. But which brokerage? There are many to choose from. Some are well-known franchises and others are independents. Some specialize in high-end luxury properties, others in commercial properties or residential sales or rentals. I started doing research. Lots of research. Are they all the same? Are the commission splits the same with all brokerages? Will they train me after I get my license? I had so many questions! I have some friends and acquaintances who are realtors. Some are very successful, others moderately. It was time to reach out and pick their brains.
